I am going to be writing some shortcodes for blogging

A shortcode is a short way of writing something that is long and complicated and they always go in the square brackets [ shortcode ]

The two created so far are:

    • FAB Digital for Together Housing

A short online community course which welcomes Together Housing tenants with an enthusiasm for digital to share their knowledge and skills, while growing their digital confidence. Thye'll go on to run FAB development sessions locally and find ways to help other tenants get to grips with Together's digital systems. Everyone involved will contribute to a unique shared project, and if people want to they will be able to explore further learning and employment opportunities they are interested in.

    • Familiarising yourself with the basic features

Area of Learning: SMART PHONE THINKING

Standard phone features (Android and iOS)

PHONE - CONTACTS - MESSAGES - PHONE LOCK

    • Outdoor Lectures - taking inside outside

      Area of Learning: Education

This course comes from a revelation, we can leave the clutches of convention, just by moving about!

I was recently preparing a class on Paulo Freire and popular education.  It was a signiifcant foundation class in a project-based module, the theoretical base for working with others to create projects using technology.

What we decided was we would take a lecture, primarily intended for the strip-lighting illumination of the institution, and take ot outside to the bright glare and glory of the sunshine.

In this course, we tell the tale of what we did, how we used every-day technology to create a lasting series of artefacts, and some of the discussion we had around the benefits and negatives of our approach.

This course is for anyone interested in education in the braodest sense - whether that is formal lecturing, work-based L&D, parents reaching children, friends teaching friends,  anyone with soemthing to share (and that IS everyone).

this will print out the latest 3 courses on coocs into a blog
    • Want to know more about COOCs?

What is the purpose of COOCS?  We see it as a real opportunity to give learning and teaching to those that really value it and perhaps have limited access to it.  It is not about courses and accreditation, colleges and fees, it is about the joy of discovery, of sharing and being able to create and learn in a supportive community.  The courses in this category are about the 'why' of COOCs and we would love you to be involved and give us your thoughts.

We have made a COOC that explores some of the presentations, articles and talks that have helped shape COOCs since the idea began to form.  There is no fixed point that we are striving for, veery day will hopefully see something, someone, new take learning and teaching to a new place.

We would love your thoughts so please add any comment and help us learn more about the ways we teach/ learn/ share.

    • Philosophy

The study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language.

    • Literacy
Literacy is the ability to read and write. The inability to do so is called illiteracy or analphabetism. Visual literacy also includes the ability to understand visual forms of communication such as body language, pictures, maps, and video. Evolving definitions of literacy often include all the symbol systems relevant to a particular community. Literacy encompasses a complex set of abilities to understand and use the dominant symbol systems of a culture for personal and community development. In a technological society, the concept of literacy is expanding to include the media and electronic text, in addition to alphabetic and number systems. These abilities vary in different social and cultural contexts according to need, demand and education.
    • Sport

Sport (or sports) is all forms of usually competitive physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators. Hundreds of sports exist, from those requiring only two participants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals.

By creating COOCs that explore the concept of 'Becoming Animal' we as a community define it.  Think and feel your way around the theme and add your ideas, we can learn and grow as we go.

    • An Equal and Fair World

    • Hearing Voices and Unusual Beliefs

Recovery from psychosis simply means finding hope for the future and finding a way to start living and enjoying life again.  Instead of asking what's wrong we can begin to think about what happened.

We discover how to make sense through sharing thoughts and ideas and learn how to use these relationships to create new ways of seeing, thinking and doing.

The courses in this category are not meant to be instructional.  They offer an opportunity for families, people with lived experience and mental health professionals to enter into discussion.

    • Poetry and Words of all Kinds

Whatever language is it defines much of what we are.  The COOCs here are open to any approach to language as you live it, breathe it and say it...or write or sing it.

    • Hack the Library!
Hack the Library is an exciting opportunity to take communal spaces in the library and be creative.  This COOC space is a part of that and a chance to let that free flowing creativity and positivity operate in a wider space.  Anyone can teach and anyone can learn and this collaboration allows all of us to get involved, teach something and learn something together.
    • Sustainable Acre

We are living in a time of huge technological advances and our knowledge and awareness of our home planet, and its inhabitants, has never been greater. So why is it that all over the world our environment is being decimated by thoughtless and greedy corporations? I believe that it is the wasteful nature of the modern lifestyle that is contributing to this problem, by feeding the larger businesses who do the most damage. What can we do on an individual, or small community level, to fight back and balance the negative effects?

This is a space for discussion and the sharing of knowledge and information regarding our journey to create a more sustainable and low impact life. As part of a long-term plan, we plan to source, develop and maintain a plot of land into our very own sustainable acre and hope that, through an open forum such as this, we can start a learning process which enables everybody to teach and learn about sustainability together.

The courses in this category are linked to the 'A Sustainable Acre' network - visit us on Facebook too
